Welcome to We Can Read: A Reading Program for the Next Generation!
we believe that every child deserves the opportunity to become a fluent reader, and our program is designed to make that happen. With the expertise of retired teachers and educators, we help kids who struggle with reading become confident, skilled readers in just six months.
How “We Can Read” Works
Personalized Learning
Each child receives one-on-one support from a retired teacher or educator who brings years of experience in literacy education. We understand that every child learns differently, so we tailor our approach to meet the individual needs of each student.
Comprehensive Approach
Our program focuses on foundational skills like phonics, vocabulary building, reading comprehension, and fluency. We create a nurturing and supportive environment where children feel safe to take risks, ask questions, and grow.
Gradual Progress
We break down the learning process into manageable steps. Starting from the basics, we guide children toward becoming fluent readers, building their skills and confidence over six months.
Community Support
Our research has shown that retired teachers still are a community of passionate educators and caregivers who share the common goal of helping children succeed. Our program fosters collaboration, encouraging students, teachers, and parents to work together toward achieving reading fluency.

Join Us Today
We invite you to be part of this transformative journey. The estimated cost of supporting 1,000 children in the “We Can Read” program in 2025 is an estimated $928,000. Whether you are a parent looking to help your child succeed, a retired educator eager to make a difference, or a community member who believes in the power of reading, We Can Read is the place for you.
Our goal is $1 Million Why?? Helping a child who cannot read costs more due to the increased need for individualized support, specialized materials, longer learning periods, and the expertise of skilled educators. These factors add up to a more resource-intensive process aimed at giving the child the best chance to succeed in their reading journey. Check out our 12-Month Balance Statement.
Together, we can turn struggling readers into confident, fluent readers—one child at a time.
